Introduction:

Very happily this lovely country pub is back in business! With local girl Leah and her fiance Swiss chef Michael in charge we can expect an outstanding offering. Leah has been well trained by her mum Sue who runs the award winning Harrop Fold Farm B&B just along the road. There are many rooms in this historic building and they are almost all small, providing an olde worlde atmosphere.

Access involves external and internal steps. At least one doorway is quite narrow.

Brews:

Thwaites ales. Original and Wainwright bitters.

Food:

Michael has cooked in two star Michelin restaurants and he intends to provide Michelin standard food at affordable prices! Michael says he will provide modern British dishes but will reflect his Swiss origins with Swiss and German influences.

The lunch menu offers limited choices with two starters, one meat and one fish main course, and one dessert. Cheese is on offer at additional cost. Though not on the menu, a vegetarian offering is available.

Booking essential for Friday and Saturday.

The webmaster has taken lunch at the Highwayman and can report that the dishes were delicious! Beautifully prepared, delightfully presented, this was cooking of a high standard. The pheasant was moist and with a perfect gamey taste with the tang of blue cheese, the best pheasant I have ever had. And for a very reasonable price - just £10 for two courses, £15 for three. My only reservation was that I thought the portion sizes were on the small side. My wife, on the other hand, thought they were just right!

Two miles out of Bollington, between Rainow and Whaley Bridge on the B5470, from the bus stand at the top end of Bollington go up Ingersley Road, Smithy Brow and Blaze Hill. After two miles turn left at T junction; the Highwayman is 100m on the right. Car parks both before and beyond the pub.
