logoCard theft scam

On 04/01/2014 an elderly lady was contacted by a male purporting to be 'DCI Martin Benton from Hammersmith Police'. The male has said that her bank card had been used fraudulently and that a courier would collect her cards for their investigation. A male driving a grey people carrier with a word like Forresters on the side came and took her cards. £500 has since been spent in two shops (possibly betting shops) and a further £1000 has been spent in a Manchester Casino.

A similar incident happened in Handforth on 02/01/2014, however the elderly person on this occasion cancelled her card and did not hand it to the courier.

Please be alerted to this scam and warn elderly members of your family and others to be aware and contact Cheshire police on 101 immediately should they receive a similar call.
